Web Push 101
Understand what browser web push notifications are, how shoppers subscribe, and what Pushrr does for Shopify merchants.
Web Push 101
Web push notifications are messages sent from a website to a shopper's browser. They can appear on desktop or mobile devices after the shopper gives notification permission.
How web push works
A shopper visits your Shopify storefront.
Pushrr shows an opt-in prompt or subscription entry point.
The shopper clicks Allow in the browser permission prompt.
The browser creates a push subscription for that device and browser.
Pushrr stores the subscription and can send campaigns or automations to that subscriber.
Why merchants use web push
- Shoppers do not need to share an email address or phone number to subscribe.
- Notifications can bring shoppers back to products, collections, sales, and carts.
- Campaigns can reach active subscribers even when they are not currently browsing your store.
- Cart and checkout recovery can remind subscribed shoppers about unfinished purchases.
What Pushrr does
Pushrr provides:
- Storefront opt-in and subscriber collection.
- Subscriber status and device reporting.
- Campaign creation and delivery.
- Abandoned cart and checkout recovery automations.
- Delivery, impression, click, unsubscribe, and recovery reporting.
What Pushrr cannot control
Browsers control the native notification permission dialog. If a shopper blocks notifications in browser settings, Pushrr cannot override that decision. The shopper must change permission settings in the browser.
